Along the woods
Oil on linen panel
7"x7"
$150

In my last post I talked about tightening up the image but here I returned to a more gestural approach. I wanted the brushstrokes to be more spontaneous while retaining their descriptive function. I also experimented with varying the temperature of some of the dark brushstrokes. You can see this in the green and blue strokes that make up the trees on the right.

This is a great piece. Bill Sharp suggested I view your site and I'm glad I did. Love your looseness and the light conditions you replicate.

Very nice. Is that paint as thick as it looks?!

Jala-
People often get the impression that the paint is thicker than it really is from the online picture. It is pretty thick on the bottom but thinner on the top. One of my goals for the future is to use thicker paint but retain the flowing quality and transparency you get with thinner paint. Not sure yet how to accomplish that yet.

This is my favourite Steve. You are getting better and better.

p.s. Maybe it might work if you use a gel medium with your paint for your goal of using a thicker paint to retain the flowing quality and transparency you get with thinner paint.
