Evening
Oil on panel
6"x6"
SOLD

It's a good thing that I'm not a teacher and that I don't have to do demos. Every time I start a painting with an end look in mind the painting does an about face and marches in the other direction. This one was going to be very abstract, very deKooningesque but somehow came out much quieter, more realistic. Maybe I'll try the subject again and see if I can convert it into a party animal.

Landscape/seascape
Oil on panel
6"x6"
$125

The name alludes to the abstract nature of this one. It definitely started as a beach scene but evolved into something less definite. Right from the beginning, the real subjects were the brushwork, the color relationships and the balance between abstraction and realism. I like it for its painterly qualities even if I may have gone a little far from the original subject.

Autumn ride
Oil on panel
8"x8"
SOLD

Inspired by a bike ride I took last weekend, in this painting I was attempting to capture the sense of motion (and stability) one feels while travelling through the Vermont countryside. It was a gray day with the leaves just starting to turn.

Lighthouse beach 8.08 #2
Oil on panel
6"x6"
SOLD

This was a difficult painting to photograph. There's a sense of depth that doesn't really come across in the photo and a great deal of subtlety that has dropped out. I guess you'll just have to use your imagination.

Lighthouse beach 8.08
Oil on two panels
8"x16"
$325

Every summer we try to get to Lighthouse Beach on Cape Cod at least once and without fail we are amazed at how different it looks from the previous year. Sandbars come and go, inlets are filled in and new tidal pools are created. We stand in awe of mother nature's power and majesty.

By most artworld standards this is a very small painting, only 8"x16" but its the largest one I've painted in a long time. I'm looking forward to doing more this size and larger.
