I have been tagged by Vince Fazio, a talented artist from Arizona. According to the rules, I'm supposed to list 5 little known facts about myself and then tag five other artists. Its a great way to learn about other artists' work. So here goes...
1. I’ve worked as a graphic designer for over 25 years but always created my own art on the side.
2. For over 15 years I stopped painting and concentrated on digital artwork. You can see some of it at www.spgoodman.com
3. I have three great kids, one grandchild, and a beautiful wife.
4. I consider Diebenkorn one of the greatest artists of all time.
5. I was an art history major in college which gave me an appreciation of a wide variety of artwork.
Some blogs I like to visit:

L.I. farm 12.19.07 #2
Oil on gessobord
8"x8"
$175
I know that the plein air movement has been growing by leaps and bounds but nothing could have given me more pleasure than painting this summer scene in the comfort of my studio while 18 inches of snow fell from the sky.

P.S. A small number of subscribers may have seen a different, tighter version of this painting. The old one still exists but I just finished this one and prefer it.

Two pears 12.11.07
Oil on gessobord
6"x6"
SOLD
Here's two more pears, this time in a looser style. The trick is to strike the right balance between the gestural touch and strong drawing. For you painters looking to loosen up I recommend Jerry Lebo's blog, Sixty Minute Artist. Its filled with good tips.

Red barn in Stowe
Oil on gessobord
6"x6"
NFS
I'm not crazy about the common blogging process of praising one's own work but in this case I have to say I was pleased how it came out. The photo doesn't do justice to the subtle details and shifts in tone. Paintings of barns in winter have been done many times but its difficult to resist the charms of these old structures.

The intervale 12.09.07
Oil on gessobord
6"x6"
SOLD
SOLD
This painting was a pleasure to paint, mainly because I used Gamblin paints for the first time. I loved the rich, creamy texture of the colors right out of the tube.

Pear 12.01.07
Oil on gessobord
6"x6"
This painting was one stroke from being finished at least a dozen times. Then I'd rework it, sometimes extensively and hope it was done. To no avail. If you look closely you can see just how thick the paint is. Finally, I decided to post it and will try to resist the temptation to rework it yet again. I'm secretly hoping someone will take it off my hands before I ruin it. It really is a nice painting.
